Human rights calendar

Human rights in Ukraine

A couple of months ago, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Ukraine team, together with the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for Human Rights, came up with a great idea - to create an annual photo calendar on human rights, where each month of this calendar is dedicated to some specific right - for example, protection of personal data, the right to access to public information, protection of rights of refugees, children, national minorities and the equality of the rights of men and women.

Lviv Independence Day

This will be a post of love for the city of the lion. Of all the cities, it was Lviv that conquered me on this holiday. When it was still “not fashionable” to wear embroidered shirt on weekdays, they did not pay attention to it here. On Independence Day, Lviv becomes especially magnificent and elegant.

My first visit to the 4th profile boarding school

4th profile boarding school

I visited many boarding schools and hospitals for the mentally ill, during this time I saw a large number of wards - in different conditions, mostly oppressive and inhuman. But there are times when you leave the boarding school shocked not at all by the conditions of people's stay (on the contrary, the institution is extremely neat and clean), but by their deprivation. What is even sadder is when they are children.

Why do these people live?

After the publication of the last post about how the wards live in the psycho-neurological boarding homes, I was asked a lot of questions in private messages. These are some of them: “Why are they like this?”, “Are they stupid?”, “Can they think and talk?”, “Why don’t their parents take them?”, “Do they know where they are?”, “They can be cured or will they remain so for the rest of their lives?”, “Why do they live?”. These questions are a consequence of the policy of total closeness of the boarding and psychiatric system from the life of society. In developed countries, they have long ago understood that the best solution for such people is to include them in the life of society as much as possible, so the sight of a person with a physical or mental disability on the streets of European countries has not surprised anyone for a long time, this is treated as a common occurrence. We have a tradition of hiding "not like that" away from the eyes of people - unfortunately, it turned out to be surprisingly tenacious.

Creation of Roma stamps

Together with the Human Rights Foundation "Progress", we developed and released the first Roma stamp in the world, timing this event to the International Roma Day. The first stamp on Roma issues, which we launched, depicts a beautiful Roma woman with a red flower in her hair. The artist and I discussed the idea for several weeks, consulted, drew, reworked, argued and came to a common opinion. And here freshly printed stamps came to us from Kiev. It is nice to hold an envelope with this stamp in hands - it is result of our long work. It would seem to be a small event, but it is very important not only for us, but also for the Roma, who were overwhelmed with joy and pride for their people when they saw the official stamp.

Night photography on the Great Allo Lake

Night photography on the Great Allo Lake

The Great Allo Lake can be described at length by describing in all the colors of the RGB color model its crystal clear water with a rich turquoise color. And it is better to see once, because words are limited, emotions and feelings are difficult to describe. We had a day, or rather almost 2 days of camping on the shore at this place. During this time I did several radial exits and one night shot.

Morning views from the tent

Morning views from the tent

While the main photo report of the Hike through the Fan Mountains is being prepared, and so that you are not sad, here is a presentation of the beauty of the mountains - morning views from the tent in places where you had to wake up and meet the dawn. The main attractions in the Fan Mountains are mountains, incredible lakes and many junipers. Yes, it is a real paradise for landscape photographers.

My TEDx Speech

tedxuzhgorod

Suddenly, I was invited to become a speaker and speak at the TEDx conference. Everyone dreams of performing there! Speaking about TED in brief - this is a conference (the first letters are an abbreviation for the English technology, entertainment, design; technology, entertainment, design) - since 1984, the American Foundation has launched the format of intellectual conferences. TED sells licenses for hosting local TEDx events and makes the most stringent demands on the organizers and format.

A few words about Budapest

Budapest

I returned at night from Budapest. I was only there for a few days, or rather a few evenings, but they left me with an exciting feeling - I just have to go back there again. The city is amazing, light and nostalgic. So far, I am in a high emotional state. Usually this condition occurs after vacations and long trips.
